Like a good story, successful design is a series of engaging moments structured over time. The User’s Journey will show you how, when, and why to use narrative structure, technique, and principles to ideate, craft, and test a cohesive vision for an engaging outcome. See how a story first approach can transform your product, feature, landing page, flow, campaign, content, or product strategy.

Please come join us to discuss Donna Lichaw's recent book, The User's Journey: Storymapping Products That People Love.

Check out the book on Amazon, and RSVP for the Meetup.

    • VisionPoint Marketing, 3210 Fairhill Dr., #150, Raleigh, NC 27612

This month, we’ll be exploring the role of a Content Strategist!

Content strategists work along with designers and engineers and their focus is on the content that appears on a site or product. Content strategy entails the planning, development, and management of content typically in digital media (e.g., websites, social media, etc.), so relevant content is displayed to the right audience at the right time. For example, with a website, they might help clients define the story they want to tell and then help them prioritize positioning that content so it resonates with their visitors best. To do this well, content strategist engage the client/stakeholders to understand them, their goals, and their users in order to craft the right content.

Join us as we welcome our speakers Tony Poillucci, Vice President, Senior Strategist & Creative Director and Matt Walters, Vice President, Director of Account Services from VisionPoint Marketing as they provide us with insight into content strategy and lead us through the activity.

    Office Tour!
We’re also excited that VisionPoint just moved into a new office, so before we kick off the presentation, they’ll be giving us a tour of their brand new space!

    Activity Details
During the final portion of the night, you'll participate in the process of defining strategic, goal-driven content for a website. We'll work with a real "client" and will address everything from research, business goals, the engagement process, target personas, user flows, information architecture and more. We will break into small groups and brainstorm ideas for content and calls-to-action designed to connect with website visitors in a way that captures their attention and drives them to an ultimate end goal.

    Agenda

    • 6:30-6:45: Sign-in and get refreshments
    • 6:45-7:00: Tour
    • 7:00: Intro
    • 7:05-7:35: Presentation
    • 7:35-7:45: Q&A
    • 7:45-7:55: Break
    • 7:55-8:40: Activity

    Location
We’re at VisionPoint Marketing (3210 Fairhill Dr., #150, Raleigh, NC 27612) in North Raleigh. There is ample parking and you can enter the office and we’ll check you in.

    RSVP and the Waitlist
You can RSVP here: http://bit.ly/aditl-content. We will close the RSVP list by noon on the day of the event. Please be kind to your fellow members and update your RSVP to “No” if you cannot attend the event. We know it’s easier to be less accountable for free events, but we really like to keep these events free to advocate for UX in the community. We really trying to avoid imposing a fee or a 3-strikes policy to hold people accountable.

If the event fills up, you will automatically be put on the waitlist. If someone changes their RSVP to “No” the earliest person on waitlist will be notified that their RSVP has been upgraded from “Waitlist” to “Yes”. Closer to the event, keep an eye out from a message from the organizer.

About the A Day in the Life Series
Each month, we'll explore a different role in the UX field. This gives an opportunity for you to learn about what people do in that particular role, ask them questions, and participate in activity to “test drive” what it’s like to be in this role. Join this meetup to be the first to know about upcoming events!

This event series is brought to you by exploreUX and Triangle UXPA. The event is co-sponsored by VisionPoint Marketing.

    Cyd Harrell

Our research can produce mounds of user research data to establish customer needs, test hypotheses, and reach actionable conclusions over usability and information architecture concerns. The language our users share with us, and that we use with our teams, is more powerful than you might think.

Cyd will show you how you can approach and break down a design challenge through language gleaned from research. With attention and practice you can access your innate capacity for using metaphor, as well as recognize the hidden metaphors we already use in the work that we do, such as “user journeys.” Cyd will show you a structured approach that makes it easy to extract meaning from research beyond the basic usability and IA issues.

    • Use games and tricks to identify the important metaphors within a qualitative dataset, particularly ones that surface hypotheses you can test

    • Invite stakeholders who may be focused on quantitative research to see the power of the qualitative side of things

    • Turn information into useful data by using spreadsheet programs to tackle big qualitative datasets

    • Gain deep insights when you categorize and cluster information more rigorously

PLEASE NOTE THAT TEKSYSTEMS' OFFICE HAS MOVED. THE NEW LOCATION IS ONE BLOCK AWAY FROM THE PREVIOUS LOCATION.

    • Pizza will be provided (Thanks to our host TEKsystems!) The webinar will start promptly at 6:00 PM, preceded by a half hour for socializing, networking, and food.

We are able to offer this webinar at no cost. Come at 5:30 to meet your fellow Triangle UXPAers and talk shop!

    * You must be present at the host location to view this webinar.

Open Source allows developers to collaborate and learn from each other to create more robust applications faster. However, UX and design are often missing from this process. PatternFly is an open source design community that provides design guidance to open source software projects and allows designers to participate in the open source process. Leslie and Allie will share their experience of creating this community at Red Hat, receiving external contributions, and how we’ve applied these open source designs to Red Hat products.

    About Leslie Hinson
Leslie Hinson is the product owner and contributor to PatternFly, an open source user experience project. She has a passion for organization, efficiency and consistency. You can find her on Twitter @patternflygirl.

    About Allie Jacobs
Allie is an interaction designer on Red Hat’s Developer Experience project, which aims to understand and improve software developers’ daily tasks through UX. Her background is in engineering, human factors, and cognitive psychology. She does not understand Twitter.

    Schedule

    • 6:30 Sign-in / Networking (light refreshments will be provided)
    • 7-8:00 Presentation with Q&A
    • 8-8:30 Networking

    Location
