Cory LebsonCory Lebson
Principal User Experience Consultant, Lebsontech LLC
President, UXPA International

This is an incredible time to be in UX–whether in design, research or development–there are many great jobs available. Getting a new job, starting a freelancer career or advancing at your current job might seem like it is a matter of good skills, experience and solid knowledge of the field. But that only gets you part of the way there.

In this workshop, Cory Lebson discusses all the ways that you need to get out in the larger UX world, beyond your job, perhaps beyond your comfort zone to increase your future career potential. The first 45 minutes will be spent discussing what you should be doing and after a break, the next 35 minutes will start you off getting out there and networking, with a structured speed networking event.

There will also be plenty of time for informal networking as well as dinner and drinks sponsored by Triangle UXPA.

Schedule
  • Networking & Light Dinner (6–6:30pm)
  • Talk (6:30–7:15pm)
    • Assessing your goals: Where do you want to go professionally?
    • Critical importance of networking: virtual vs. in-person
    • Prepare your elevator pitch (exercise)
    • UX Adventure: Unpaid activities are as valuable as paid activities
    • The value of UX orgs
    • Should you go off on your own?
    • Success is tangible
  • Break (7:15pm–7:25pm)
  • Structured UX Speed Networking Event (7:25–8:00pm)
  • More informal networking and drinks (8:00pm–9:00pm)
