The Red Hat User Experience Design (UXD) team is looking for a Senior User Experience Designer to join us in Raleigh or remote United States East Coast. In this role, you will solve complex problems and transform them into experiences within our product portfolio.

The UXD team helps make Red Hat products easy—and enjoyable—for all users. Our global team of researchers, designers, content designers, and developers work together to connect the technical world to the human world with intuitive and approachable product experiences. Whether we’re collaboratively supporting Red Hat’s product portfolio, exchanging ideas in upstream communities, or crunching code for PatternFly (Red Hat’s open source design system), our focus on teamwork, empathy, and transparency play a key role in building products our users love.

What you will do

  • Turn intricate technology into simple, intuitive experiences for every day users
  • Consider an end-to-end user experience that spans product onboarding, usage, and support
  • Work with a team of researchers, designers, and front-end developers to build user experiences in your product area
  • Partner with stakeholders across Red Hat to gather business requirements and present recommendations
  • Perform or participate in planning user research to inform or validate design decisions
  • Understand and communicate the information architecture, workflows, and processes surrounding the user experience
  • Create mockups, wireframes, and other design deliverables
  • Build relationships with developers to support successful development
  • Identify usability issues and make solid recommendations for improvement
  • Actively participate in PatternFly, our community-built design system, as both a user and contributor
  • Make time for fellow designers to provide feedback and mentorship

What you will bring

  • Willingness to advocate for a high-quality user experience through every step of the process and across boundaries
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and feel comfortable explaining your ideas and process to other people
  • Knowledge of when and how to use data to inform design decisions
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations, needs, or requirements
  • Portfolio of work that demonstrates your process and skills

The following will be considered a plus:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in interaction design, visual design, human computer interaction, human factors, computer science, or a closely related area
  • 5+ years of experience with designing user experience for applications
  • Proven record of leading design creation and delivering high-quality results on schedule
  • Ability to adjust leadership style influence, encourage, and challenge others in a variety of situations
  • Adaptable to changing conditions and unexpected obstacles, modifying work methods in response to new information to accomplish organizational goals
  • Experience with agile development
  • Experience with open source projects
