Our customers perform tasks routinely across devices and screens, starting an interaction, pausing, and completing it, moving from phone to desktop and tablet. Ultimately, they want to be able to do the same thing on a small screen as they do on a large one. Where do designers begin when they are tasked with adapting their work to small screens?
Hagan shows us how to fit the myriad tasks and behaviors a user exhibits on a large screen to a smaller one. She challenges us to think beyond a user “session” to consider the user’s state. Screen size can reveal or hide information, and how and what we choose to feature is determined by our understanding of our users and the components of our design.
