We are seeking a part-time contractor (3-6 month) to full-time permanent hire for this position.
Facing History & Ourselves is a global education non-profit organization that challenges teachers and students to use lessons of history to stand up to racism, antisemitism and other forms of bigotry and hate.
Position Description: The UX Researcher is a key contributor in designing and improving user-centered digital experiences that serve Facing History's diverse audience of educators, students and supporters. This role combines deep expertise in UX research, strategy and analytics to align user experiences with organizational goals and audience needs.
You will lead the design, execution and analysis of qualitative and quantitative research methods to uncover actionable insights, ensuring that user engagement metrics improve across facinghistory.org and connected platforms. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, your role will advocate for accessibility, equality and inclusion while driving innovation and continuous improvement across the journey.

You Will:
User Experience Research (70%)
- Lead UX research initiatives, including usability testing, A/B testing, surveys and user interviews to gain actionable insights.
- Develop and maintain user personas and journey maps to support a shared understanding of our audience across teams.
- Identify research opportunities to better understand user behaviors, pain points and preferences, aligning findings with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with content teams to ensure user research informs content strategy and information architecture.
- Create and maintain user testing schedules, recruit participants, and ensure diverse representation in studies.
- Use behavioral analytics tools like Google Analytics, Hotjar, or Optimizely to identify pain points and opportunities for improvements across the digital experience.
- Support product roadmapping, sprint planning, and reporting efforts to ensure organizational strategies and initiatives have appropriate KPIs in place as measures of success.
- Publish regularly updated reporting that helps support cross-team efforts while keeping key stakeholders informed on the effectiveness and progress across our digital experiences.
- Partner with designers and developers to prototype and iterate on solutions informed by research insights.
- Build and maintain a centralized library of research insights and findings for organizational reference.
- Advocate for user-centered design and data-driven principles in decision-making process across the organization.
Advocacy and Collaboration (30%)
- Lead workshops with cross-functional teams to share findings and brainstorm potential solutions.
- Build partnerships with other teams to advocate for integrating user research into decision-making processes.
- Represent the organization in external forums or conferences to showcase the impact of a user-centered approach.
- Mentor colleagues in research methodologies and foster a shared understanding of the value of UX research.
