World Information Architecture Day is a one-day annual celebration hosted by the Information Architecture Institute and held in dozens of locations across the globe.
This is the Triangle area’s first World IA Day event and we’d love for you to come join us!
The theme for World IA Day 2018 is “IA for good”. We’ve been challenged to think of how might we use information architecture (IA) to protect human civilization from misinformation.
Our goal is to create a website that teaches individuals:
At the event, we’ll be working in small groups to go through IA activities to create the skeletal structure for the site. We’ll be working on personas, content inventory, card sorting, and page layouts. We’ll also go over how you can take these activities and refine them into deliverables.
Afterwards, if you’re interested in carrying this project to reality, we’ll be forming a small action team to create the site and content based on work from this event. We are aiming to have this project finished by March 11 (2 weeks from WIAD). We’ll coordinate a Doodle poll to see when we can meet.
This event is great for all levels of experience. Whether you’re new to IA or seasoned, it’s a great opportunity to work with others in the UX community and do something for good at the same time. If you’re new to the UX field or looking to enhance your portfolio, this is a great event to get some hands-on experience with real deliverables. We’d love everyone to join us in celebrating information architecture!
Now-2/24:
The event is $5 for member and non-members. You can also join/renew with Triangle UXPA and waive the event fee.
Since our intent is to create a real site, we need to make sure we’re providing the right content to the right audience. We recommend conducting 2-3 user interviews before the event. On WIAD, we’ll take your findings and create personas. This is pre-work optional, but it might help get your mind “in the game” for WIAD. How casual or formal you make the interviews is up to you.
You can find our script and set of interview questions in our Google Doc.
