    Primary Responsibilities:

    -Create a living style guide that can be referenced by the UX/UI team and developers

    -Support senior UX designers to enhance designs for UX projects by helping with design revisions and QA.

    -Understand and apply current industry trends in design, particularly in adaptive and responsive web design.

    -Communicate concepts and ideas visually and verbally.

    -Coordinate design execution details between teams, scheduling meetings, documenting changes and actions, communicating status to teams and following up on tasks and next steps.

    -Manage design-related issues and actions to closure.

    -Organize project assets and ensure distribution to key internal and external teams.

    -Assist in the coordination and preparation for internal and external meetings.

    Position Requirements:

    -Solid grasp of CSS3 and HTML5 to facilitate responsive and modern design.

    -Basic knowledge and understanding of version control (ideally using Git).

    -Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced environment where innovation is expected.

    -Ability to work on several projects simultaneously with demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks independently.

    Preferred Skills:

    As a UX Designer at Caktus you will:

    Within 30 days, became acquainted with the Caktus team and participate in UX and requirement discussions with the stakeholders:

    -Plan high-level view of content/feature hierarchy using user flows for complex web apps

    -Collaborate closely with Product Strategist, Front End and Scrum teams to detail project requirements

    -Visually diagram user journeys using flow charts for large-scale apps (web and mobile)

    -Perform usability reviews of existing apps and present findings using simple and digestible recommendations

    -Always keep overall site structure, content organization, and navigation in mind

    -Mockup responsive page layouts to illustrate the priority and organization of page content and user navigation

    -Conceptualize features through rapid, iterative prototyping and wireframing

    -Identify common layouts and widgets to be used sitewide

    -Create clean, accessible, intuitive responsive digital interfaces

    -Instill and improve standard processes for creating user workflows and intuitive user interfaces from project requirements

    Within 60 days, begin cultivating a reusable pattern library and collaborate closely with the team to help see designs built through to completion:

    -Kickstart projects by leading and participating in discovery workshop exercises

    -Lead highly collaborative UX discussions with internal and client stakeholders, gathering requirements and integrating feedback in productive ways

    -Work alongside Product Strategists and Scrum team to define user stories and review requirements that you’ll translate into wireframes and interactions

    -Work with internal team and client stakeholders to scope and estimate design and front-end development needs for new projects with potentially limited requirements

    -Research and incorporate the latest UX patterns into user flows and page designs

    -Stay on top of latest design patterns and principles to recommend creative solutions to unique project workflows and challenges

    -Cultivate a reusable pattern library to take advantage of users' pattern-seeking tendencies

    -Develop and curate processes and templates to facilitate on-going design/development team adoption of established project user experiences and interface designs

    Follow through on UX designs by working closely with and assisting front-end development building your designs:

    -Work closely with the Technical Leads to ensure all delivered projects employ Caktus’ standards for high quality design and development

    -Help improve the design/development team collaboration and lead by example with frequent updates on progress to internal and client stakeholders

    -Using established UX and interface patterns, coordinate with and assist front-end developers through implementation and iteration of interfaces

    Within 90 days, take ownership of the UX development process on several ongoing client projects:

    -Collaborate on 3-5 multiple ongoing projects and follow features through to completion

    -Actively take part in ongoing team Scrums activities to identify blockers and prioritize tasks

    -Identify and mitigate edge cases

    -Collaborate effectively with team members also balancing several concurrent projects

    Demonstrate thought leadership and community involvement by participating in a subset of the following:

    -Contribute to Caktus blog on a regular basis

    -Conference participation (talks, panels, tutorials, etc.)

    -Show what you’ve learned through lightning talks, either at Caktus or elsewhere

    -Attend local user groups


    -Familiarity with industry-standard technologies (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)

    -Some experience working in an agile development environment

    -Excellent interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills

    -English: Fluent

    Bonus points for:

    -Eye for and/or visual and graphic design experience

    -Working knowledge of HTML/CSS

    -Familiarity with issue trackers (Github, Bugzilla, Redmine, bitbucket, etc.)

    Guilford College invites applications for a visiting lecturer in Experience Design to begin Fall 2016 with the possibility of continuing in Spring 2017. The incoming lecturer will teach a survey course, XD220 – Experience Design. This course supports Guilford’s launch of a new minor in Experience Design. Because the XD minor is new, this position may include additional compensated opportunities to help shape and grow the program and to contribute to innovations within supporting departments. The course will meet weekly on campus Wednesdays 6:00-8:00pm.

    Guilford College’s teaching environment balances strong technical skills with conceptual depth. We place great importance on innovative and excellent teaching. A graduate degree in experience design or related field such as human factors, user experience design, human-computer interaction is preferred. We will consider candidates with a combination of education and professional experience. Applicants with evidence of successful teaching are especially desirable.

    Guilford’s Experience Design program has been created through a collaboration between the departments of Art, Computer Technology and Information Systems, Theater Studies, Business and Psychology.
