    Merge eClinical is seeking a User Experience Designer to create intuitive and innovative user experiences for our next generation eClinical platform. We’re looking for creative leaders interested in contributing to a variety of interactive and mobile based initiatives. The UX Designer at Merge eClinical will work across the user experience domain, including research (user interviews, ethnography, persona development), design (sketching, group ideation, information architecture, interaction design, prototyping), documentation (wire framing and specification writing), user testing and user interface design. The successful candidate will serve as the glue between Stakeholders, Users, and our engineers that bring these designs to life.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Execute user requirements gathering, conceptual modeling, onsite and offsite usability testing and competitive landscape analysis
    • Design and specify user interfaces and information architecture using participatory and iterative design techniques including customer interviews, usability testing, and other forms of requirements discovery
    • Produce user requirements specifications, personas, storyboards, scenarios, prototypes, wireframes, functional specifications, and design specifications
    • Effectively communicate research findings, conceptual ideas and detailed design rationale both verbally and visually
    • Help manage the interaction design process, drive decisions, track issues, and assist in estimating resource needs and schedules
    • Participate as a contributor to an interdisciplinary team that includes project managers, product strategists and developers
    • Designers need to be able to both discuss and document their designs and design decisions effectively to varied audiences
    • Create and develop intuitive and visually appealing interfaces and associated interactive assets for data and content heavy initiatives
    • Be a champion of our brand protecting standards while pushing our design strategies into new uncharted territories

    Required Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor’s Degree is required
    • 5+ years of experience developing interactive products as an Information Architect, Interaction Designer, User Experience Designer or Usability Engineer
    • 3+ years of experience developing user experience wireframes and design mock-ups
    • A portfolio or work samples that display UX/UI designs must be submitted
    • Proactive and creative problem solver with an intellectual interest in current and new technologies and techniques
    • Mobile experience a plus
    • Well-organized, with attention to detail and excellent follow-through skills
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and collegiality

    About the Job:

    The successful candidate will speak the language of the technical teams with whom they will be liaising frequently.     Responsibilities

    Understand and promote the process of user-centered design.

    Mandatory Skills & Qualifications
    Minimum 5+ years’ experience designing user interfaces for the web, following user-centered design principles.
    Must have interaction design experience for web applications, ecommerce sites and mobile applications.
    Experience wireframing initial layouts and functionalities for websites and applications using Balsamiq (or any other wireframing tools).
    Experience with CSS, HTML, Javascript to design engaging and interactive website, ecommerce and web application UIs.
    Proficiency with design tools, such as Photoshop, Illustrator or Fireworks (experience with other rapid prototyping tools would be sufficient).
    Experience with Mobile and/or “responsive” design and their methodologies.
    Strong portfolio including task flows, wireframes, prototypes, etc. required.
    4 year degree in Computer Science, Design, Human-Computer Interaction or related field preferred.
    Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

    Good To Have
    eCommerce background/experience.
    Familiar with Parallax design techniques.

    Knowledge and practical application of accessibility factors, per ADA Section 508 requirements and W3C WAI guidelines.

    SUMMARY

    Duke Web Services (DWS) is seeking an Information Architect to join the Office of Information Technology (OIT) Web Services team. The position is responsible for organizing and structuring content, and collaborating with the Creative Director on user experience design for Duke University and Health System websites. The process includes site and content discovery, usability and accessibility assessment and testing, taxonomy development, site and application prototyping, experience wireframing, content development and management, maintenance usability review, and general consultancy.

    The position requires a genuine passion for cutting-edge technology, the ability to assess the feasibility of projects, write requirements and specifications, and research and recommend solutions. This position reports to the Manager of Duke Web Services in OIT.

    DWS has produced award-winning sites, applications and print materials for many areas of the Duke community.


    WORK PERFORMED

    Work closely with the Creative Director and development team to deliver highly customized web-based solutions that support the mission of Duke by understanding the goals and needs for a project and translating requirements with the use of sitemaps, wireframes, user testing, documenting requirements and other tools/processes as needed into a development roadmap for both the client, art director and development team.

    Recommend and implement best practices for website and mobile user experience.

    Strong understanding of site functionality, site architecture, data flow and intuitive navigation schemes are expected. Maintain expertise on state of the art and emerging web and mobile technologies.

    Recommend standards for acceptable design and content of Duke application interfaces and processes in coordination with Duke standards and policies.

    Develop time estimates for project deliverables.

    Additional responsibilities include documentation and training for client-maintained sites, content creation and editing.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required:

    • 3 - 5 years experience working in a collaborative environment focusing on Information architecture and user experience (UX).
    • Strong experience in content discovery, usability and accessibility assessment and testing, taxonomy development, site and application prototyping, experience wire-framing, content development and management, maintenance usability review, and general consultancy.
    • Strong experience with wire framing and prototyping tools.
    • Experience with content management systems - Drupal and/or Wordpress a plus.
    • Ability to continuously learn and assimilate new technologies.
    • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Motivated, focused and self-guiding,works well on a small team.
    • The ability to interact with both technical and non-technical audiences is critical.

    Preferred:

    • Experience working in higher education

    Education/Training:
    • Bachelors degree in Information Sciences and a minimum of 3 years Information Architecture experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
