    We are currently looking for User Experience Researchers to join our fast-paced, entrepreneurial culture. Position(s) will work within our User Experience Research team based in Durham, NC.     

     Primary Responsibilities

    Talk to customers often!

    • Design and administer usability studies on a wide range of Fidelity web sites and applications.
    • Analyze results and efficiently prepare reports detailing the outcome of usability.
    • Present findings with actionable recommendations to business sponsors and senior management.
    • Lead all phases of usability test preparation, including recruiting, scheduling, and test script development.
    • Work closely with our internal business clients to translate their business requirements into experiences our customers love.
    • Identify and implement a variety of methods for getting input and feedback from customers, including participatory design methods, interviews, observational studies, online feedback mechanisms, focus groups (in-person and remote), card-sorting exercises, lab usability studies, online usability studies, remote usability studies, and others as appropriate.
    • Conduct user research to determine future directions for Fidelity’s websites and applications, including mobile apps.

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Master’s degree a plus (e.g., usability, human factors, ethnography, HCI, sociology).
    • Experience in the UX, usability, and/or user research fields.
    • Experience in financial services preferred but not required. Willingness to learn about and immediately immerse in the financial services space. (It’s fascinating!)

    SUMMARY

    Duke Web Services (DWS) is seeking an Information Architect to join the Office of Information Technology (OIT) Web Services team. The position is responsible for organizing and structuring content, and collaborating with the Creative Director on user experience design for Duke University and Health System websites. The process includes site and content discovery, usability and accessibility assessment and testing, taxonomy development, site and application prototyping, experience wireframing, content development and management, maintenance usability review, and general consultancy.

    The position requires a genuine passion for cutting-edge technology, the ability to assess the feasibility of projects, write requirements and specifications, and research and recommend solutions. This position reports to the Manager of Duke Web Services in OIT.

    DWS has produced award-winning sites, applications and print materials for many areas of the Duke community.


    WORK PERFORMED

    Work closely with the Creative Director and development team to deliver highly customized web-based solutions that support the mission of Duke by understanding the goals and needs for a project and translating requirements with the use of sitemaps, wireframes, user testing, documenting requirements and other tools/processes as needed into a development roadmap for both the client, art director and development team.

    Recommend and implement best practices for website and mobile user experience.

    Strong understanding of site functionality, site architecture, data flow and intuitive navigation schemes are expected. Maintain expertise on state of the art and emerging web and mobile technologies.

    Recommend standards for acceptable design and content of Duke application interfaces and processes in coordination with Duke standards and policies.

    Develop time estimates for project deliverables.

    Additional responsibilities include documentation and training for client-maintained sites, content creation and editing.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required:

    • 3 - 5 years experience working in a collaborative environment focusing on Information architecture and user experience (UX).
    • Strong experience in content discovery, usability and accessibility assessment and testing, taxonomy development, site and application prototyping, experience wire-framing, content development and management, maintenance usability review, and general consultancy.
    • Strong experience with wire framing and prototyping tools.
    • Experience with content management systems - Drupal and/or Wordpress a plus.
    • Ability to continuously learn and assimilate new technologies.
    • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Motivated, focused and self-guiding,works well on a small team.
    • The ability to interact with both technical and non-technical audiences is critical.

    Preferred:

    • Experience working in higher education

    Education/Training:
    • Bachelors degree in Information Sciences and a minimum of 3 years Information Architecture experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    The User Experience (UX) Designer participates in the day-to-day user experience engagement activities with a focus on delivering market-differentiating, high quality, highly interactive, high performance applications that match or exceed customer expectations.     4. Present design work to the user experience team, product team, and users for review and feedback.
    5. Appreciate critical feedback (both giving and receiving) and seek it out in reviews with peers, stakeholders and research. Listen to the feedback and balance multiple, sometimes conflicting, inputs when arriving at a final design.
    6. Revise and improve designs based on user feedback, research, tech constraints, and business decisions.
    7. Craft UX engagements that exceed customer expectations by partnering with key product stakeholders to understand and support product business goals, advocating user-centered design (UCD) industry best practices.

    • Experience working in a collaborative team and working directly with developers for implementation of designs.
    • Proven capability to work on multidisciplinary project teams in the deployment of best-of-breed, innovative, and user-accepted software applications.
    • Ability to interact effectively with product teams of all levels and backgrounds, from CEOs to office staff, inside and outside of organization.
    • Self-starter with strong organizational skills who can keep the big picture in mind, work through details, and sell ideas.
    • Creative and strategic thinker able to develop innovative solutions to problems and leading-edge design.
    • Visual design expertise demonstrated through mockups and style guides.
    • Proficiency in a variety of design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite.
    • Hands-on experience in information architecture, use case development, storyboarding, mock-ups and highly interactive prototypes.
    • Strong understanding of web interface programming, including HTML/XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a plus
    • Proven ability to manage long-term engagements with multiple project tracks and teams.
    • Deep understanding and awareness of product development and experience tying product goals to business goals.
    • Ability to manage projects and resources.
    • Open to feedback and knows how and when to defend design choices.
    • Strong problem solving/decision making skills.
    • Well-developed analytical skills
    • Self-motivated and willing to "do what it takes" to get the job done.
    • Working proficiency of company standard MS Windows and associated office productivity software tools
    • Ability to travel up to 10%
