    In this role, the User Interface Designer will own the design of all user interfaces in product portfolio. When new products or features are identified, the User Interface Designer is responsible for creating the visual designs, standards, and style guides from the ground up, while continuously iterating with product management, engineering, and customers for feedback and input.  Using their passion for user experience design, this individual will be a key member of the team that’s transforming how the healthcare industry delivers care to patients.


    The ideal candidate will have several years of experience delivering innovative interface designs, working with product management and engineering in a very agile development environment.


    Designs You’ll Own:

    • UI for product suite, including prototypes of new features
    • UI for entire digital health platform
    • Work with the Corporate Marketing team on creative design for the corporate website, sales collateral, and standalone graphics

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Work directly with customers and product managers to understand the various user needs and behaviors
    • Prototype and iterate upon new product concepts for customer feedback sessions
    • Design product interfaces with a focus on usability
    • Present your designs and communicate the reasons behind them
    • Work closely with developers to ensure a high-quality implementation and user experience
    • Perform user research and user testing as appropriate
    • Own the design process, standards, style guide, and best practices for the company
    • Work with the Corporate Marketing team to provide the creative direction for corporate and product-specific marketing materials; this includes designing for the corporate website, developing graphics for the web, and providing design guidance on printable materials.


    • 5+ years of experience in UI  design for desktop and mobile.
    • A design portfolio focused on web and mobile apps
    • Experience prototyping as a means to explore and convey design solutions
    • Experience partnering with product owners and engineering teams to deliver solutions
    • Experience implementing and managing a technical style guide
    • Experience with web-based HTML and CSS
    • Bias for action. “Can do” style that thrives in a fast-paced environment
    • Excellent communication skills are vital

    Preferred Experience:

    • Experience designing software for healthcare solutions is strongly preferred
    • Experience in B2B and B2C applications is strongly preferred
    • Experience with Sketch, Figma, Invision, Zeplin.
    • Experience in usability testing.
    • Experience in using Analytics to optimize the user experience including funnels, heatmaps, dropoffs, A/B testing.

    As User Experience (UX) Designer/Developer, you will be responsible for creating intuitive and compelling user experiences and user interface designs for the HORIZON LIMS product suite. You will collaborate as part of an agile team of creative and energetic software developers, analysts, and architects to bring vision concepts of product owners to market. 

    • Delivering design concepts to help showcase product vision and ideas
    • Delivering visual designs for a quality user experience measured by input collected through usability testing

    • Deliver UI design artifacts to ensure designs and interactions are appropriately implemented in software products to meet user expectations
    • Apply final styling to product web pages to ensure a consistently implemented design
    • Conduct user interviews to gain insight and feedback towards influencing UX and usability decisions
    • Participate in design reviews and openly provide feedback and guidance to peers

    The requirements listed below are representative of the experience, education, knowledge, skill and/or abilities required. 
    • 2+ years of experience in UX, UI, and visual design for software products
    • Proficient understanding of UX tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Balsamiq, InVision, or similar creative design tools
    • Expertise in HTML and CSS
    • Experience working with Kendo UI libraries, Font Awesome, Bootstrap, or similar frameworks is strongly preferred 
    • Experience with usability testing and gathering input through user interviews is preferred
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Design, Development, Engineering, or a related field is preferred
    • Any experience in a scientific or laboratory background is a plus

    We are looking for a Product Strategist Contractor to work with us on a project basis for a wide variety of clients. We would like to develop a relationship with someone who has between 10 to 30 hours per week available. The Product Strategist role requires on-site time in our Durham, NC office to collaborate with our team and clients.

    As a Product Strategist at Caktus you will:
    • Consult with the sales team to determine which incoming leads would benefit from UX activities and research, such as discovery workshops, and incorporate your findings into project proposals
    • Assist with reviewing and updating previous Caktus user and stakeholder research to ensure the use of cutting-edge methodologies and processes in our discovery workshops and research projects
    • Conduct quantitative and qualitative audience research in partnership with project and sales teams to identify user and stakeholder needs
